Friday 10th Feb @ 19:00:00
Waitangi Day is New Zealand's national day and celebrates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi between the British Crown and the Maori peoples of Aotearoa/New Zealand on 6 February 1840.
The New Zealand Society was established in London in 1927 and is a charitable organisation with the aim of continuing to promote the strong links between New Zealand and the UK. The Society is the official host of the Waitangi Day Charity Dinner in London, which will be held on Friday, 10 February 2012 at Plaisterers’ Hall, One London Wall, which is one of the most spectacular Livery Halls in the City of London.
The evening will commence with a New Zealand sparkling wine reception, followed by a three-course, New Zealand-themed dinner accompanied by New Zealand wines. The dress code is black tie/evening wear.
The special guest speaker for the evening will be Jarred Christmas, who is an award-winning New Zealand comedian and compere. He has made regular contributions to the Edinburgh Comedy Festival, as well as numerous television appearances, including on ‘Mock the Week’, and most recently in the BBC’s 'Children in Need Mastermind Comedy Challenge', as well as dressing up like Madonna for 'Let's Dance for Comic Relief'.
The Society’s Vice-Patron, His Excellency Mr Derek Leask, the New Zealand High Commissioner to the UK will be hosting a table. Mr Chris Myers (European Regional Manager of Air New Zealand) will also be co-hosting a table with the Society’s Vice President for the three finalists of the UK New Zealander of the Year Award 2012, being (in alphabetical order) Mr Kent Gardner, Ms Bronwen Horton and Mr Paul Kendrick. Mr Myers will be announcing the winner of the Award at the Dinner.
The Society is honoured to have Ngati Ranana London Maori Club performing during the evening. There will be a charity raffle and all net proceeds of the evening will go to the New Zealand Society Charity Fund. The Society uses this to support its various charitable activities, including cultural exchanges between NZ and the UK, including being the first NZ community organisation in the UK to give money to the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal.
The dinner will be followed by dancing, and there will be a cash bar including New Zealand wines and beer. The evening will conclude around 12.30am.
Ticket prices are as follows: (1) New Zealand Society members: £115 per person; (2) Non-members/guests: £130 per person; (3) Tables of 10: £1,150 per table. Tickets may be purchased online securely via the New Zealand Society website, www.nzsociety.co.uk, or by emailing president@nzsociety.co.uk.
