Human Rights in a Commercial Context
8th July 2009
On Tuesday 30 June 2009, the UK Chapter of the AALS together with the London Common Law and Commercial Bar Association (“LCLCBA”) hosted a discussion evening on the theme, “Human Rights in a Commercial Context”. This coincided with the conference of the Australian Bar Association, which was being held in London at that time.
We heard three very good short talks by Rodney Garratt QC (of the Victorian Bar) and Rhodri Thompson QC and Kieron Beal (both of the English Bar); followed by a stimulating and thoughtful discussion. It was very good to have an opportunity to organise an event that involved the Australian chapters of the AALS, and which provided an opportunity for interaction for our usual constituency and members of the LCLCBA to mix with lawyers visiting from Australia.
We are very grateful to our speakers, to Freshfields, who generously hosted the discussion, to Christina Bunbury of the Sydney chapter of the AALS, to Margaret Bowron QC, President of the LCLCBA and to Laurence Emmett of the AALS UK Chapter Committee, for their work in organising the evening.
